We Exist. (Watch this!) → youtube.com

In the infinity of space and time, we exist.

As a bonus, we have the capacity to think, feel and express ourselves.

When we allow ourselves to be humbled by our very existence, that’s when we feel gratitude for living - everyday.

Is there anything more beautiful?

Saw this on Reddit today

Dear fat person at the gym:

I saw you at the gym today. I’m there a lot, so I know the regulars, and I can tell you’re not yet one of them.

You looked uncomfortable walking in for the first time. I could see you glancing nervously at the people in better shape than you, that combination of self-conscious anxiety and envy written clear as day across your face. I watched you out of the corner of my eye as you struggled to lift a little weight and walk briskly for a little while on the treadmill. If you saw me looking, I hope you understood that I wasn’t judging you. I just wanted to make sure you didn’t get hurt.

And, you made me think. You don’t know this, but it reminded me of when I was starting out my new life for the first time. A lot of us that you were watching, half embarrassed and half to imitate, were exactly where you were once too. So know that there’s no need to be ashamed, because we know just where you are and how you feel.

Congratulations on taking the first step. Good for you. I hope you keep it up, come back again and again, and become a regular. And if you do, I know that someday you’ll be standing in my shoes, watching the next scared fat person glance enviously at you as they begin their new lives.

Inspired by everyday occurrences, and the gym anxiety that I know everyone feels once.

* Note from HealthierEveryDay: I hope this is not offensive in any way to anyone. I found it true, for me. I don’t judge people who are working out - whatever their size. I’m proud of them… each and every one of them… for finding the strength to get up and do it. It can be hard, scary, intimidating - but ultimately it’s SO worth it. :)

Oh and the reluctant runner just sent me this...I thought i would pass it on to you..for your Paleo list of recipes Banana Blueberry Muffins 3 cups almond meal or almond flour 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda 2 tablespoons butter, melted and cooled 4 large eggs 2 cups (5 to 6) mashed ripe bananas 1 cup frozen blueberries, thawed and drained Preheat oven to 350 degrees (or 325 degrees convection). Butter a 12-cup muffin tray. In a large bowl, combine the almond meal, salt, and baking soda. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs and melted, cooled butter. Stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until combined. Stir the bananas into the batter, mix to incorporate, then fold in the blueberries. Spoon the batter into the muffin cups. Bake for 30-40 minutes, until the muffins are golden brown and spring back to the touch.

Just have to post this so I have it on my blog. The only thing I’ll change is I’ll substitute butter for coconut oil. Voila! Paleo. :)

Thanks Robin!

“Jealousy is simply and clearly the fear that you do not have value. Jealousy scans for evidence to prove the point - that others will be preferred and rewarded more than you. There is only one alternative - self-value. If you cannot love yourself, you will not believe that you are loved. You will always think it’s a mistake or luck. Take your eyes off others and turn the scanner within. Find the seeds of your jealousy, clear the old voices and experiences. Put all the energy into building your personal and emotional security. Then you will be the one others envy, and you can remember the pain and reach out to them.” —Jennifer James (via whenmysexyisright)

I want to spend some money!

Things I think I will purchase today:

  • Nalgene. I want a really cute, decorated one. Where do I find one? Any tips?
  • A new bra. I’m literally falling out of this one. Along my weight-loss journey I’ve lost a full cup (yaaay, sorry but they were too big before and now I’m loving their size).
  • Sunglasses. These I will probably get this weekend. I want Ray Bans.  It’s time.
  • The next book in the series The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Girl Who Played with Fire. Almost done with the second one - 20 pages to go. :)

Not sure what else just yet, but sometimes I just want to spend money. Today is one of those days. :)

I'm interested in the Paleo stuff! I read up a little bit on it, and it's definitely well reasoned. A lot of it seems like your typical clean eating, which I'm pretty good about eating foods that aren't processed, but I'm surprised that beans and potatoes aren't allowed. I'd love to know how much energy this eating style gives you and stuff. Are you strictly following it?

Hi! Thanks for the message!

I agree - a lot of it does seem like typical clean eating.

However, I’m not at all surprised that beans and potatoes aren’t allowed while on Paleo. Beans are one of the hardest foods for the body to digest (that’s why Beano exists… and the rhyme “beans, beans, they’re good for your heart, the more you eat the more you fart”) and potatoes are practically pure starch. Don’t get me wrong I FRIGGIN LOVE POTATOES but I was not at all surprised they aren’t allowed on Paleo.

So far I haven’t experienced a change in energy upwards (like so many people do) but I did experience a pretty severe drop yesterday. Read about it here.

Also, yesterday I outlined how strict I will be while doing Paleo - check out that post by clicking here.

Keep an eye out for updates on my experience, though. I will definitely be posting them. :)

Workout #2, #3, #4

Workout #2 - Walked a mile in the sun this afternoon, swiftly. Broke a sweat.

Workout #3 - Lifted and carried boxes filled with books from my storage room to my car for about 15 minutes (i.e. heavy lifting… VERY heavy lifting!)

Workout #4 - Lifted and carried boxes filled with books from my car to my new home for about 15 minutes. (see above. Heavy lifting).

My arms are about to fall off.

I planned to do my floor workout tonight (abs, arms, legs) but eff that! I don’t need any more working out today.

I need some CALORIES!

Paleo food porn to come, shortly.

Hi Michelle! Don't worry I understand it can be overwhelming to follow too many people, I'm sure you have good reasons behind your choices and besides I love you too much, so do whatever you want! <3 Well, try adding a banana and/or an orange in the morning. For my standards, half an apple is really too little (I'm a sweet tooth!). Bananas are actually complex carbs, not simple sugars! so it should give you energy for many hours and potassium as well. Pineapple is awesome as well: it's low in sugar but has incredible properties, perfect for a healthy snack. I hope this helps! Let me know how you are doing. Love, Susie

Susie!

Thank you for this! I will stop at Whole Foods on my way home from work today for bananas.

As Robindoesrunning suggested, it might have also been not enough refueling after my workout this morning.

And as Jillianmichaelswannabe suggested, it might have been not enough protein so far today (though with a protein shake for breakfast [20g], a hardboiled egg for a snack [7g] and paleo chili for lunch [probably around 15g] - I’m not sure this one fits the bill.

Whatever it was, the message from my body was clear: FEED ME!

I was happy to oblige.

xxx,
M

PS And thanks to everyone who responded to this. Evidently this is not common, so it may not have anything to do with going Paleo at all - it might just be that I am undernourished today. Time to grub up! xxx

PPS - Twinny, (i.e. Jillianmichaelswannabe), you are a plethora of information! What would I do without you?! I will get crankin on that protein intake, pronto!!
