Springing into Summer Nail Art Tutorial
nailinthecoffee: I’m thrilled to announce both my first nail art tutorial, and guest post, for the wonderful ladies over at Pretty Prudent, a site dedicated to style, crafts, travel, and family. I call them ruffles, my boyfriend calls them “mario trees,” but they’re simple, impressive, and really launch us into summer - I think you’re gonna love it!  Click here to read the full tutorial with...

Craving or Hungry?
In the last few weeks I’ve realized the difference between craving food and actually being hungry. and I’ve also noticed just how drastically different those feelings are. With cravings, the pull toward food is soooo much stronger than my willpower. It seems almost impossible to be strong enough to overcome it. “Cheese? Get it in my mouth.” “Chips and dip? I might...

I'm not a slave to the scale
I don’t weigh myself everyday. Nor do I weigh myself regularly. Not weekly, not monthly. I hadn’t even weighed myself in at least six months before last week. I don’t see my scale as my enemy… In fact, I hardly see my scale at all since it is tucked between a cabinet and a wall whenever it is not in use. But because I’m actively losing weight (not *trying* or...

Just in the nick of time!
Got a little snacky-snacky feeling this afternoon. Thought about grabbing a pop-tart from the kitchen at work. I mean, I. Seriously. Thought. About. It. There’s pop-tarts. Strawberry. Mmm. But then I’d be cheating on Paleo. But Mmmm. But Paleo. Summer’s coming. So’s your birthday. But Pop-tart. Strawberry. With frosting. Toasted. Fitting in my cute white dress for hot...

Vacation Results
Hi there! Did you miss me while I was on vacation? (Don’t answer that.) I was so busy while I was away that I didn’t have time to sit down and write a post - but here it is! Let’s get straight to the nitty gritty, shall we? How did I do being Paleo while on vacation? I was Paleo about 50% of the time - which is an improvement for me! Normally when I go on vacation I go buck...

Willpower Returns
I’m officially on Day 3 of Paleo today. Yay! I’m finally sticking with this after pussing out the last few times I “committed”. I’m so proud of myself so far. Yesterday was, again, mostly easy for me. Surprisingly easy, actually. Considering that I went through the trouble to go to work prepared with homemade lunch (leftover turkey kielbasa and butternut squash...

I'm back!
It’s been about a year of very sporadic posts from me - but I’m back! I’ve spent the last year at a desk job in the corporate world, working for an eco-friendly company (heck yeah!). Unfortunately, there has been an abundance of crappy, free food available to me every day & I haven’t been as strict with myself as I ought to have been. Yikes! After seeing one of my...

"Diet food"
I hate it. I hate how it looks when people post a picture of it. I hate how it tastes SO boring. The idea of eating a handful of raw carrots, some sauteed ground turkey with a side of raw almonds is seriously gross to me. Day. After. Day. I’ve eaten those things. They taste good… in combination with other foods. But all those plain items smooshed together into one meal just so you...

Mini Vacation
This past weekend I went to Denver, Colorado for the Great American Beer Festival. Three days of food, beer and more walking than I could have imagined. I didn’t take any special care to eat well or healthy - just ate what I wanted to. I’m a believer that watching my intake most of the time allows me that kind of indulgence. If I had gone on a two week vacation, my thoughts on that...

Who are you’re top three to five fitness blogs? I’m down to following just 50 people and it’s not enough for my dash. Hook me up with a recommendation, please! Who do you follow?

It's Monday again
Which means, of course, it’s time to atone for my weekend “sins”: • cheat meal: penne pasta with homemade bolognese • beer • beer • beer Hey, that’s actually not too bad for my first weekend after being semi-strict paleo for a week! And, in fact, I said “no thanks” to drinking last night while out with friends. It felt good to have the willpower to say...

The Power of Staying Positive
Throughout my future posts, expect me to focus on the things i was successful at rather than spend too much time on the things I failed at. I’m choosing to (re)create an uplifting sort of blog, focused on maintaining a healthy mindset, choices and engaging in an active lifestyle. I’m happy you’re along for the ride! Xxx, M

3 more miles on my bike today
Unintentional. Again. Subway had delays, so I rode to Union Station. 2 miles. Hopped on the train and went home. From train station to home… one mile. So now I’ve done almost 10 miles in two days. :)
